Tutorial: Multi-group connection node

Goal:

Using different group on one line in your schematic.

Steps:

• When a group (color) is assigned to a connection line, it will be automatically assigned to all attached connection nodes, lines and ports. But there might be certain cases where multiple separate groups all attached to the same connection node is preferred.

• For this a simple component needs to be created with multiple normal ports:

  1. Place a new (normal) port; go to ‘Draw’ → ‘Port’ or press [P] on the keyboard.

  2. Make sure ‘Hide In Output’ is checked, so it will not show up on any plot.

  3. Press ‘OK’ and place the port in the desired location. The 1^st^ point that is assigned will be the base/origin of the port, the 2^nd^ point will be the end of an optional line extension (This is not required but might make it easier to identify the multi-group connection node). The 3^rd^ point is the text position.

  4. Copy and rotate the created port and add as much legs as required.

  5. Afterwards, place a connection node in the center from ‘Draw’ -> ‘Connection Node’.

• The ports that are placed are not connected to each other and therefor the groups will not be automatically copied from one to the other. The same goes for the connection node itself.

• If this is desired, connect the connection node to one of the ports with a connection line (Or simply use the connection node as a port.)

  1. Afterwards, select all the parts, go to ‘Modify’ → ‘Create Component’ (To group them together). Uncheck ‘Show in Bill Of Materials’ and press ‘OK’. Now this can also be saved to your library for future use.

• Quick & dirty

  To quickly add a non-connected port to an existing connection node, press [P] to add a port to the connection node. Again, make sure ‘Hide In Output’ is checked, so it will not show up on any plot. Place it on the connection node and connect your new line to this extra port. ↓
